FAQS
1. What's the catch?
If either you or one of our approved applicators buy your complete render system from us and our one of our approved applicators apply the system to correct warranted specification in its entirety there isn't one! We will complete localised decorative repairs to cracking that occurs in render systems we have supplied for 2 years after the delivery date with no quibbles! It should be noted that its often wrongly assumed that the manufacturers of external coatings cover you for cracking in their own warranties but this isn't the case.
2. How can Rendit offer this when no one else does?
Rendit has developed Mendrend, our own fully authorised and patented render repair system which we have been using daily for over 30 years! We are good at this if we do say so ourselves!
3. Does this make Rendits prices expensive?
We constantly monitor prices across the UK and we are confident that you should find our prices more than competitive, especially when you look at the full picture including any delivery costs. We don't aim to be the cheapest, we leave that to the suppliers who have no idea what they are selling or how to help you if you have problems. Our 5 Year Crack Free Guarantee simply cannot be beaten!
4. How do I qualify for this guarantee?
It's simple, if you or one of our approved applicators buy your correctly specified and warranted render system from us in its entirety and one of our approved applicators applies it you are automatically covered for 5 years! If you purchase any part of your render system elsewhere such as beads, mesh etc, you will not be covered. Clients who have this cover in place include large housebuilders such as Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey, main contractors, sub contractors, private contractors and the end user. It doesn't matter who pays we cover the render system! We ensure we only supply components that are of the highest quality, even our PVC beads are BBA tested and approved to 30 years!
5. What is a crack?
Cracks are very easy to identify, they tend to be 0.5 - 3mm in width and follow a straight line either between openings or along the full length or breadth of a wall.
6. Will my property crack then?
Honestly, if we were betting people we'd bet that it wouldn't with more than decent odds but we wouldn't be surprised if we lost that bet!
7. What standard are crack repairs carried out to?
British Standards and the National House Building Council have a slightly different take on what visual standard external coatings should be finished to so in order to provide you with peace of mind we work to those standards to provide repairs that comply with both, provided the cracked walls are not discoloured or stained and have not lipped from one side of the cracks to the other. (Lipped cracks are relatively rare but do happen.) Saying that, our own internal standards are even higher and most cases we aim to provide localised repairs that are completely unnoticeable to the untrained eye where the properties of the wall allows. If the walls are are discoloured, stained or displaying a lip from one side of a crack to the other we will notify you as such to discuss your options. It should be expected that decorative localised repairs to lipped cracks or cracks on stained / discoloured walls are going to be still visible once carried out. These types of cracks may require additional general overcoating works over the entire wall to improve their look which will be chargable.
Basically, both British Standards and the NHBC say repairs to external renders can still be noticable but should not be "unduly obtrusive," when viewed from a distance of 10m out of direct sunlight for your reference.
8. Can't I buy something from the builders merchants and do the repairs myself?
All we would say is good luck!
These modern renders are produced using mined minerals and applied outside usually. Their colour shade can vary a lot from one job to the next purely due to different application and drying criteria on each day. If you could find a suitable off the shelf product (We aren't aware of any.) and somehow manage to action a repair of the cracks by matching the random texture it would take sheer luck to get a colour matched repair. This would also be the case with any products the manufacturers offer you, if you don't believe us ask them to confirm in writing that their products are guaranteed to be colour matched to your property for a localised repair. Why risk your expensive render system being covered in unsightly lines from a botched repair? Our technicians have vans kitted out with mobile labs and mixing equipment. They can measure pigment weights with an accuracy of a thousandth of a gram. Every house is expertly colour matched by eye and materials mixed on site, as far as we are concerned we believe this is the only way to get a great repair!
We'd also ask if you are an applicator why would you want to be servicing historic customer issues if you are busy and if you are an end user why would you want to service your issues yourself?
10. How many times will you visit to repair cracking under the 2 Year Crack Free Guarantee?
This guarantee covers you for one visit free of charge for decorative repairs of any cracking issues that occur with in the render system itself during the two years of cover. When cracking is noticed after the application of render we would advise that the cracks are carefully monitored for a period of at least 6 months to ensure they have stabilised before we are asked to attend for the free of charge repair visit, this is to ensure longevity of repair. We do realise that sometimes issues may arise on site where outside pressures mean that we may be asked to attend within the 6 month monitoring period. We are happy to try to accommodate this where we can but with the understanding that no further support under this guarantee will be provided. If we attend site on an agreed day to complete repairs under this guarantee and for whatever reason the site is not available for reasons outside of our control we will deem that to be your one free of charge visit and further visits will be chargeable. We do not cover the cost of providing access equipment if it is needed to complete the works. Finally, it is your responsibility to point out any cracks to our repair technicians on the day of attendance. If you are not available to show us your issues which result in required repairs being missed then any further visits to rectify missed cracks will be chargeable.
11. If my property is deemed to have structural issues is this covered?
This guarantee is only offered within the limitations of the capabilities of our Mendrend Render Repair System and the original render system itself. It does not cover any aspect of the buildings underlying substrate. Mendrend should not be used to hide structural problems within a building, therefore buildings with structural problems identified are not covered.
12. My cracks are only visible when it rains are they covered?
Cracks that are only visible when the walls are wet are not covered as this would be defined as "crazing." Generally cracks need to be visible on dry walls and out of direct sunlight when viewed from a distance of at least 7m to be covered under this guarantee as it's at 10m viewing distance that bodies such as British Standards, NHBC and the LABC deem clearly visible cracks to be "unduly obtrusive," in their technical documentation. We can help you correct this specific issue at low cost though so please let us know if this is happening.
13. What is a localised decorative crack repair?
A localised decorative repair is one which affects only the crack itself and no other part of the wall. The repairs should be deemed decoration of the render sytem only as they add no further structural properties or improvements to the building.
15. This is too simple, there's got to be another reason the guarantee won't be valid?
Ok, one last thing. All the goods need to be paid for in full by all interested parties for the guarantee to be valid. If you hold an account with us which is in payment arrears then this guarantee on all qualifying render systems purchased through the account will be suspended until the account is brought back up to date with it's payments. This guarantee is not offered as a means of dispute resolution and we will not proceed with remediation works until all interested parties confirm they are happy to proceed under the terms offered.
